Her first small concert at the French Cultural Center in 2020 received positive feedback from the audience, but it did not define a path, until the album "Love & Dream" was released. During pregnancy and desire to contribute, we can recognize a simple, sincere and soaring Hien Nguyen in her love of music. Opera artist Bich Thuy, Hien's teacher returning from Austria commented:
“In the past, when studying with me, Hien only focused on learning classical singing techniques, but now she sings lyrical and emotional. Perhaps in Hien's heart, there must be 200% of emotions in order for listeners to feel 100% of her emotions. In order to convince the most demanding listeners in the profession before going to the public, Hien Nguyen had a not easy journey. Many times she burst into tears in the studio, the road was too thorny and hard. “For any classical artist, it is not only Hien who finds it difficult to find an audience, using the word struggling to find the way is also correct, but it is true that I am doing art. After 5 years I already have a loyal audience of mine. That is the happiness of the artist."
Bringing Western sexy beauty, Hien Nguyen Soprano also cultivates a proud intellectual cultural background and is a rarity of Vietnamese music. She belongs to a small group of female artists pursuing an academic career, fluent in English, Italian and French. With the way of making the album "Love & Dream", Hien Nguyen Soprano once again proves that music is unlimited when expanding the classical style with Pop, Jazz, Latin... full of improvisation and charisma. Hien Nguyen said, she has found herself after many years of fumbling for the way, it is a journey full of energy, aspiration and commitment of a passionate artist who considers music a great love in life. .
2. Hien Nguyen after 5 years returned to Vietnam more thoughtful, more profound. The breakdowns in her private life and the bumps in her career made Hien understand that life is not just a straight line. And Hien sings more life, more love from those bumps echoing into her music.
Hien Nguyen raised a musical dream from a young age, from her mother's lullabies. But she is not lucky to have a beautiful voice right from the start. Teacher Hien said that, "my soul is beautiful, in that soul there is definitely a beautiful voice hidden". And Hien, from the teacher's belief, began to study and practice hard. "I just sing with my heart and soul and always keep it with the spirit of working hard, passionate about it, the audience will feel my sincerity and love."
Knowing Hien's passion, although the family is poor, the family always tries to let her children pursue art. “What my parents had a good influence on was that they never valued material things to keep their spirits high. And when making art, I also think that, if I worship materialism, it's very difficult to follow it. So on my way, there are times when I stumble, sometimes I get tired and wonder why my path is so difficult. Fortunately, I was able to work with lecturers who love music and live and die with the profession, first Ms. Ngoc Lan, then Ms. Bich Thuy returned home in 2017, I learned her resilient will. I always fight with myself to put a very strong stake in the ground, and then free to fly.”
Talking to Hien, I respect her in her will and determination to pursue her dreams. Graduating from the National Academy of Music, Hien found her way. Just studying in the country is not enough, although at that time she attended two universities in Vietnam, the University of Foreign Languages and the National Academy of Music. Hien decided to study more Italian and find a scholarship to study in Italy for a master's degree. Working hard from morning until 10:00 at night, she didn't come home, after a year and a half, she found her first scholarship, a 2-month language course in Italy. After that, Hien alone went to Milan to find a school and find a way to apply for a scholarship. Milan Conservatory has welcomed a little girl from Vietnam, opening new paths and turns on Hien Nguyen's journey.
There was a time when Hien regretted returning home, it was 2018, life was too difficult, classical music was almost absent from the audience. In Italy, she is content with going to the theater, not having to think too much, the lessons given by the artists and so on. Returning to Vietnam struggled, there was no acting ground, no audience. She once intended to find a PhD scholarship to return to Italy. But her life is here, Vietnam is where she wants to return and dedicate. Hien Nguyen started making products and fumbled for the way.
“I realized that if I work hard with my job and pursue my passion to the end, I have to be fierce with it, then I will have a sweet fruit. In 2018 up to now, I have had many transformations, from classical singing to semi-classical and now I bring Dance, Jazz ... into the music, not Hien Nguyen of Pop ballad, semi-classical. but a rustic, sincere Hien Nguyen, unleashing in the colorful world of music", she shared.
It can be said that Hien Nguyen is walking on the path of effort, will and pure love of music, unencumbered by the hustle and bustle of life. Therefore, she cherishes every ticket that the audience buys, every plate they order. Hien still rides a motorbike to deliver each ticket, each album to the audience, and she is happy for that.
On the Youtube channel, on the day of the album's release, it increased to more than 10 thousand listeners, the number of channel subscriptions reached 4,000 people, just over 100 subscribers a month ago. Those are numbers that speak for a classical artist like her. Hien does not please the audience to sing Pop, still on the luxurious classical background, she mixes many new and fresh colors to attract young audiences.
I asked Hien, what does music mean to her life, Hien said: “My son asked a question, do you love music more or do you love me more? I told her that you are her life and music is her life. I am passionate and devoted to music, and you are my daily life. Music nourishes my soul and when I have a soul I will know how to nurture you. I think music is the connection of my soul with my inner world, as a bridge for me to connect with life and with you. And my son hugged me tight.”
Hien Nguyen believes in her path, she will continue her journey with small outdoor concerts, hotels, streets... That's the way to bring music closer to the audience, not to frame it. in the cathedrals of the theater stage.
